Congratulations to the QED team, named national finalists in the Bank of Canada Governor's challenge. The team consists of 4th-year undergraduate students Will Cross-Bermingham, Heather McCandless, Connor Neff, Elise Nelson, and Shiyuan Qu. This year 27 universities competed. The Queen's team won their pool and are one of five teams in the finals, which will take place in Ottawa in February 2018. Morten Nielsen has been renewed as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Time Series Econometrics. Morten's research develops new and improved statistical methods for analyzing time-series data. Such methods are widely used in applied macro-economics, financial economics, and many other fields.

The winning paper is titled “The Slaughter of the Bison and Reversal of Fortunes on the Great Plains.”
