Title: "Exposure to Competitive Performance Settings and the Willingness to Enter Tournaments".
Abstract:
We design and evaluate the effects of a set of randomized educational interventions based on teaching elementary school students coding. The educational program we report on in this paper involves competitive incentives and relative performance information, and aims to give children experience with competition in a controlled environment designed to minimize conflict. The effects of this program are evaluated against the outcomes of a group that gets the same educational content but with individual rather than competitive incentives, as well as a control group. We report preliminary results on the effects on the willingness to enter tournaments and gender gaps therein.
