ECON 494 W: Seminar on Global Growth, Development and Inequality.

This seminar will focus on several themes in order to lay the ground work for student research papers. Recent theoretical and empirical research will be discussed drawing on the literature in the following areas: (1) paradigms of growth and development, (2) empirical work on determinants of growth across countries, (3) role of international trade and investment, (4) unequal impacts of economic development, (5) role of institutional quality and policy, (6) linkages to climate change, (7) linkages to food security, (8) interactions with health outcomes and pandemics. Students are expected to complete a research paper by the end of the semester and will receive guidance from the instructor throughout the process.
